Charles I have a copy of this book purchased many years ago but still unread- you have inspired me to read it !

message 2: by Aaron (new)

Aaron Brown I read and loved this back when it came out!

Gwern You might find it even more interesting to reread now after all these years, then.

message 4: by Lolita (new) - added it

Lolita A great review Gwern. Will read the book definitely.

Ellis Mitrou Wow great review! I randomly stumbled upon this book at a retirement community when I was on vacation at my in-laws place in florida last week. Pretty excited to dig in. I enjoyed Being digital by negroponte a few years back.

Gwern 'self-belief' and 'own stuff' seem apposite here: http://blog.samaltman.com/how-to-be-s...

Gwern An earlier example, Rockefeller: https://www.goodreads.com/review/show... an apparently irrational bet on a dubious technological change which would have utterly ruined him and his reputation if it hadn't gone better than anyone else dreamed at the time.
